The Marxist section of the American Sociological Associationstarted a new blog in the Fall of 2018. They have been posting some great posts about applying Marxist theory to research and politics. The editors of the blog have been updating it fairly regularly. Check it out.
PRAXIS PROJECTS
Two faculty associated with the Center for Theory have praxis projects – i.e. putting theory to work. First, Dr. Jennifer Millerhas a blog (RaiseThemRighteous) about the role cultural texts, like picture books, play in shaping how we perceive ourselves, the world, and all the people in it (and the animals, environments, ideas, etc.). Dr. Miller regularly blogs about the work that she conducts for her own research, which includes writing a book about LGBTQ children’s literature.
Second, the Center houses MusicDetour: The DFW Local Music Archive. This project links Dr. David Arditi‘s research by trying to develop alternatives for local musicians to distribute their music. A new website is coming soon, so keep your eyes open for it.

On Monday, March 25, Dr. Ken Roemer presented at the Center for Theory’s Colloquium. This was his last presentation on campus before his retirement this Spring. It was our pleasure to host the event, and Dr. Roemer will be sorely missed.
The Shorthorn wrote a great article about the event.
